The Chaplaincy Team
The Chaplaincy Team is a key part of the Catholic Life Pupil Leadership Group at Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School. Through prayer, service, leadership and witness, our pupil chaplains help to promote and strengthen the Catholic life and mission of our school, ensuring that Christ remains at the centre of all we do.
As pupil leaders, members of the Chaplaincy Team encourage others to live out our school values of Faith, Hope and Love. They work alongside staff, parish and the wider school community to help create opportunities for prayer, reflection, worship and spiritual growth. Through their example, they demonstrate how young people can actively contribute to the life and mission of the Church.
What Do Our Chaplaincy Team Do?
The Chaplaincy Team plays an active role in many aspects of school life. Their responsibilities include:
- Planning, preparing and leading prayer and liturgy.
- Supporting Celebrations of the Word and collective worship.
- Helping to organise and participate in school Masses and liturgical celebrations.
- Promoting our school mission and Gospel values.
- Gathering pupil voice to help evaluate and develop Catholic Life.
- Supporting prayer spaces throughout the school.
- Encouraging participation in prayer, reflection and spiritual formation opportunities.
- Helping pupils understand how faith influences everyday life.
- Working alongside Mini Vinnies and other pupil leaders to strengthen the Catholic life of the school.
Prayer and Liturgy
Prayer is at the heart of our school community. The Chaplaincy Team helps pupils to encounter God through a variety of prayer experiences and liturgical celebrations.
Throughout the year, team members support:
- Child-led Celebrations of the Word.
- Whole-school and class Masses.
- Rosary and Marian devotions.
- Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter liturgies.
- Prayer writing and reflection activities.
- Worship opportunities in our Prayer Garden.
- Evaluation of prayer and worship experiences.
By helping to plan, lead and evaluate worship, our Chaplaincy Team enables children to take ownership of their faith journey and develop confidence in sharing their faith with others.
Living Our Mission
The Chaplaincy Team supports the mission of Ss Peter & Paul by helping to ensure that our Catholic values are lived out each day. Members strive to be role models who demonstrate kindness, compassion, respect and service towards others.
Through their leadership, they help pupils understand that faith is not simply something we learn about but something we live. By listening to the views of their peers and contributing to the development of Catholic Life and Mission, they play an important role in shaping the future of our school community.
Our Chaplaincy Strategy
At Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School, chaplaincy is an important part of our vision for developing the whole child. Our Chaplaincy Team works within the framework of the school's Chaplaincy Strategy, which can be found below. The strategy serves as a roadmap for developing and enhancing the spiritual, pastoral and evangelising mission of our school.
The strategy was developed in response to our Catholic Self-Evaluation and sets out clear priorities for strengthening Catholic Life and Mission across the school. These priorities include:
- Renewing and embedding our school mission.
- Developing pupil leadership and pupil chaplaincy.
- Increasing pupil involvement in prayer, liturgy and worship.
- Strengthening opportunities for spiritual formation.
- Developing the Catholic Curriculum.
- Enhancing evaluation and pupil voice within Catholic Life.
The strategy is built around the Five National Standards for Chaplains, recognising the chaplain as:
- Witness – living and proclaiming the Gospel through service and example.
- Pastor – supporting the wellbeing and spiritual growth of others.
- Leader – leading prayer, liturgy and faith formation.
- Educator – supporting learning, theological thinking and spiritual development.
- Professional – ensuring chaplaincy continues to grow and develop effectively.
Our Chaplaincy Strategy ensures that chaplaincy is not confined to special events, but is woven throughout the daily life of the school. Through this approach, we aim to create a community where every child can flourish spiritually, deepen their relationship with God and actively participate in the mission of the Church.
"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:16
